Q) Can 32-bit FME be run on a 64-bit machine?
A) Yes, FME can be run on a 64-bit machine.
Because of the system architecture FME should run considerably faster than on a regular 32-bit machine, even without updates to the FME application.
64-bits also permits FME2006-GB or newer to use up to 4GB of memory if required (32-bit has a default 2GB limit).
Q) Is there a specific 64-bit version of FME?
Yes.
FME2008
FME2008 introduced a 64-bit version of FME for Linux.
FME2009
FME2009 will introduce a 64-bit version of the FME Engine for Windows. This can be used in FME Server implementations or from the command line (but not through Workbench - at least not by default!)
