Sometime in mid-1997, the FC1 specifications changed slightly. FC1 maps produced or updated since at least July 1997 make use of these new specifications. The FC1 mapping files supplied with FME 2.0 work fine with older FC1 files produced prior to the specification change. However, polygons around the mapsheet edge will not be correctly formed with newer FC1 datasets.

We have made adjustments to the FC1 mapping files and are pleased to announce that the new ones will support both old and new FC1 maps.

If you have FME 2.0 or older, please replace the contents of the gallery/fc1 directory (found in your FME installation directory) with these updated files. FME 2.1 and later includes these updated files, so no action is required.

The major change was that in the past, in each of the polygonal overlay levels, the mapsheet boundary was present in a noded form. For the new FC1s, the polygonal overlay levels do not have the mapsheet boundary.

A single mapsheet boundary, noded to all the overlay levels, is now present on level 56 of the FC1. We have also updated the extraction of road, water, and planimetric linear features to reflect another change. In new FC1s, level 40 contains a number of features copied from the TRIM base that were not present in the old FC1s. When you translate using FME, you will notice that the "TYPE" attribute contains "(TRIM)" following the type of the feature (for example, "Logging Road (TRIM)"), if the feature came from this level 40 update level. In addition, older road, planimetric and water features may be found on levels 49 and 42. These are features not shown on the TRIM base, but may be of use to some clients. Such features will have "(NonTRIM)" as part of their TYPE attribute.
